Cerita memasak ayam yang cantik ataupun dalam bahasa inggerisnya; “the story of cooking the beautiful chicken”


Hahhhh…ambik engkau,
sekilometer panjang dah tajuknya!

Okay……
yesterday, I was trying out a new recipe…
but I couldn’t do this without my domestic help,
so, I brought in my little helpers….
two of my students; Eranie and Laie…..

MTZ : Eranie, Laie…kamu berdua tolong cikgu memasak nanti ye..
            (Eranie, Laie…you are going to help me cook afterward)
Laie: Baik, cikgu…
            (Alright, teacher…)
Eranie: Nama ka’ dipanduk di’ lagik cigu?
            (Apa yang nak dimasak nanti, cikgu?)
            (What are you going cook later, teacher?)
MTZ: Ayam…tapi special sikit!
            (Chicken…but it’s going to be special!)

So, the gang and I got everything ready for cooking.

MTZ: Eranie, kamu tolong ambilkan serai lima batang….
            (Eranie, get me five stalks of lemongrass…)
          Laie pulak…kamu tumbukkan lada hitam ni.
            (Laie, crush these black peppercorns.)
Laie: Habis, ayam ni nak buat macamana cikgu?
            (So, what are we going to do with this chicken?)
MTZ: Ayam ni cikgu lah yang potong.
            (I’ll cut the chicken.)

So, here’s the recipe for “Thom Yam and Lemongrass Chicken”
sliced chicken breast meat,
diced lemongrass – about five stalks, only use the white part
crushed pepper
Thom Yam stock cube
sliced onion
ginger
sugar and salt
chili sauce and tomato ketchup

MTZ: Dah sedia?
            (Are you ready?)
Laie&Eranie: Yah….

MTZ: Okay…panaskan minyak dulu…
            (heat the oil)
Laie: Minyak…..
MTZ: Kemudian, goreng isi ayam ni dulu…
            (then, fry the chicken meat…)
Eranie: Bah, nama ka’ di gaga’ ku?
            (Dah…apa yang saya kena buat?)
(What about me…what am I going to do?)
MTZ: Eh..eh..jangan la marraaa….kamu tumiskan bawang, halia dan serai ni….
            (Eh,don’t grumble,you are going to fry the onion, ginger and lemongrass)
Eranie: hehehe….

When the chicken meat is about brown enough,
just transfer it into the wok with the fried lemongrass, ginger and onion..

MTZ: sekarang gaul sampai ayam tu nampak cantik bergaul dengan serai tu…
            (now, mix the chicken with the lemongrass until the it looks beautiful)
Eranie: Pei..pei…manuk nyadi bajik! Hehehehe…
            (pei…ayam jadi cantik! Hehehehe…)
(the chicken becomes beautiful! Hehehehe…)

Laie: Udah nya cikgu…?
            (Then what, teacher?)
MTZ: Sekarang, masukkan sos cili, sos tomato, kiub tomyam, gula, garam…
            (Now, put in the chili sauce, tomato ketchup, thomyam cube, sugar, salt…)
Laie: Laju amat…endak sempat! Madah agik baru cikgu…
            (Cepat sangat…tak sempat! Beritahu lagi cikgu…)
            (Too fast…I didn’t get it! Tell me again, teacher..)
MTZ:Hmmhh…Kamu niiii….masukkaaaaannnnn sos ciliiiii daaaannnn sos tomatoooooooo…
Laie: hahahaha…Kelalu baka nya’ cikgu!
            (hahahaha…melampaulah macam tu cikgu!)
            (hahahaha…that was just too much!)


After a few minute
the dish is ready to be served
with steaming hot rice!
Yummm….
Okay…Laie, Eranie, jemputlah makan!
