my latest creation
this is my latest film, extremely short. well, this film was just an experimental project. i used a time-lapsed technique to record my movement, and then repeat the whole shot a few times; slowing it down and then speeding up the shot gradually. i had a laugh after i saw the whole video when it completed.
the music i was listening to during recording : bjork "declare independence"
location : sk nanga kain; specifically teachers' quarters
recording, wardrobe, lighting, editing, sequencing : myself
directed by : m tauhhid zawawi

the story and the poems
ramadhan is a very humbling time. and there's a good reason for it. long before the fasting month, the comfort of food, water and luxury are usually taken for granted. memang tak dirasakan langsung. the joy of breaking fast after a long and arduous journey, makes one wonders, how fortunate and blessed it is to be able to live and enjoy the minimum luxuries in life.
the story behind this poem was, it was actually given to a friend of mine, with a hope that he will post it in his blog. but long before the story came to be, we had to travel and endure the hot and sunny equatorial afternoon sun. basking atop of the express boat for more than an hour, battling thirst and the urge for shelter; from sk nanga kain to kapit, was pale in comparison to be in the first class of a fully air-conditioned express boat ride from kapit to sibu. my journey continued with another hour of bus ride to sarikei. that would mean i had my break in the bus. the journey, the weather and the humbling feeling of breaking fast in the bus sparked the idea for this poem.
and here is another poem. i had the idea for this poem after reading a thread by a friend of mine in engkabang.net ( hi bro ibnu ). he mentioned the idea of the absurdity of hari raya aidilfitri being given the image of reminiscing sadness; instead of celebrating it as a joyous occasion. suddenly, bam!, i got the idea of writing a poem of both reminiscence and joy. i wrote this poem in two parts (or halves, as i would always say) giving the picture of a child impatiently awaiting the arrival of eid. the first half, from the perspective of the little child himself, and the second half was from the perspective of an adult...or precisely, the little child's uncle. i couldn't come up with the title of the poem though....it was written at the spur of the moment.
poetry of ramadhan
well, bila dah dekat nak raya ni, ada saja ilham datang menjenguk. to me, ramadhan and hari raya are two magical and inspiring time of the year for me. i came up with several poems, but only two are blogworthy (excuse me, the word 'blogworthy' does not exist in any English Language dictionary, do forgive me for this). each poem has its own story. insyallah, i'll try to explain how the poems came to be.
poetry is just a parade of words.

My Personal Pick Part 1
i came across this song from a British soul-eyed singer DUFFY. quite good, mellow, sorrowful, and the video has this ambiance of moving on, despite being heart-broken. i like the part where she sang and cried , and her mascara ran down her face. hmm...this singer deserves her Grammy, for sure.
From Wikipedia:
Song written by Jimmy Hogarth, Eg White, and Duffy and produced by Hogarth. It was released in May 2008.
The music video for "Warwick Avenue" premiered on 23 April 2008, on Channel 4 and was directed by Daniel Wolfe. The video is almost entirely composed of a single shot; it starts with Duffy leaving Warwick Avenue Tube Station in the back of a black taxi, crying as she is singing the song. The video finishes with Duffy still in the car, wiping her tears, which had ruined her make-up. This was originally only to be one scene from the video but the director felt that the 'black taxi scene' was so real he continued to film it as the whole music video.

Sepatu- Sepatu Putih Dan Kompeni Pasangan
haha...here's a new video from the best (well, for me..) indonesian band. ladies and gentlemen, Roman Ketiga.
giant burgers and bazaar ramadhan
Have you ever seen a beef burger this big? well, maybe you have but this is a first for me. i was amazed of the sheer size of the burgers, i just can't resist taking pictures of them. the burgerBro (abang jual burger) said the burgers were pre-ordered and prices varied according to the filling.
It was an enjoyable time to have been spent at the Ramadhan bazaar here in Sarikei. it wasn't too crowded and i get to see many different types of traditional and modern/fusion dishes. the price, neither too cheap nor too expensive, just affordable. Mum bought macam-macam dishes.

11 September 2001...the day when everyone looked up!
right now i'm watching a documentary on History Channel. it's 102 minutes that changed America. it is so sad that people end up living in fear because of ignorant fanatics. let's pray that this ramadhan will bring peace to the world. Not one single religion in the world teaches terrorism. it's just crazy. let's live together peacefully; Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Baha'is, or even atheists, we only have one world.
PEACE.

The "Tribute in Light" memorial is in remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001, in honor of the citizens who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks. The two towers of light are composed of two banks of high wattage spotlights that point straight up from a lot next to Ground Zero. The "Tribute in Light" memorial was first held in March 2002. This photo was taken from Liberty State Park, New Jersey on September 11, 2006, the five year anniversary of 9/11.
